More About FLACL
Library Collections Improvements
The Friends have provided support for downloadable e-books and audiobooks for use with Kindles, Nooks, iPads, and other readers (both OverDrive and EbscoHOst).
Equipment
FLACL provides assistive technology such as an electric scooter and magnifying readers for both libraries.
Youth Services Program Support
Mesa Public Libraries and White Rock Library Homework Centers are completely supported by the Friends, including salaries for high school tutors, tee shirts, and publicity. The Volunteer Coordinators/Mentors for the Youth Volunteer Program and the Summer Reading Program are also supported by FLACL. Early Literacy Computers for children at both libraries were replaced in 2016.
Adult Services Program Support
The Friends supports film series in both libraries, the adult one at Mesa Public Libraries and the Family Friendly one at WR as well as Book Group Kits, each with ten copies of the same title and discussion questions to get book groups started.
Authors Speak Program
Art Show and Exhibit Support
Through support from the Friends, Mesa Public Library has been able to host traveling exhibits, primarily in the Upstairs Gallery.
Community Involvement
FLACL runs the Friends' Bookstore, maintains the membership, and participates in the Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations. Friends also supports the Lora Belle Cole Library at the Los Alamos Detention Center with books, magazines, shelving, a computer and software, and provides weekly pick up and delivery of library materials to inmates.
Public Awareness Activities
Friends' annual grant to the County Libraries covers promotional materials, including those distributed at the annual fall Health Fair, to inform the community of library activities and services.
Regional Involvement
Gift funds, equipment and books to regional public libraries and local schools on an as-needed basis are examples of the Friends' outreach activities.
