Congratulations to the recipients of the 2020 Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries Award and the June Ettinger Memorial Scholarship. Thank you to all our patrons, donors and volunteers for helping to make five young people’s dreams come true.

Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries Award

All Los Alamos High School, Los Alamos County private high school and Los Alamos County home-school graduating seniors who plan to attend an accredited college the next school year are eligible to apply for the Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries Award. The award amount is $2500.

​

June Ettinger Memorial Scholarship

Los Alamos High School graduating seniors planning to attend an accredited college the next school year are eligible to apply for the June Ettinger Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship amount is $3000.

​

To apply, students must submit an application and essay.

 

The essay must be a personal narrative about a book. Tell your readers in what ways this book has added to your understanding of the human condition or has enhanced your life.

 

The essay must concern an age-appropriate book that was NOT required for school and which has NOT been translated into a visual medium. It must be approximately 500 words, typewritten, and DOUBLE SPACED.

Please attach a cover sheet to your essay with your name, the book’s title and author, as well as have your essay printed one-sided. You must confirm that the book you have selected has NOT been made into a movie or television movie or program, or that the book is NOT based upon a movie or television movie or program. If your book does not meet this criteria, your application and essay will not be considered.

Application Procedure

1. Complete and submit the LAHS Local Scholarship Application.

2. Provide the required essay.

3. Be willing to participate in an informal interview (if necessary).

 

Test scores are not required. However, you must show some proof of good standing, such as an unofficial transcript. Please submit this information with the application. Home school students may submit such verification of progress as is available.

YOUR ESSAY WILL ONLY BE CONSIDERED IF THE BOOK AS NOT BEEN MADE INTO ANY MEDIA, IS DOUBLE-SPACED, HAS A COVER SHEET, AND IS ONE-SIDED.

​

Applications are available through the Los Alamos High School Career and College Resource Center.
